The heat is on in the Yampa Valley, and that means it’s a great time for seasonal local produce to thrive.

We are so lucky to live in a place with such a vibrant agricultural community that can provide high-quality meat, eggs, produce, cheese and honey, as well as many other products. It is such a special experience to be able to meet the different farmers and ranchers and hear their stories and experience their passion firsthand.

As the new market manager for the Community Ag Alliance, I am excited to be part of an organization promoting and protecting agriculture in this beautiful community.

I have been so fortunate to be able to visit several different farms and ranches and see with my own eyes the care these producers are putting into their animals and produce. It is truly inspiring to see how much they love what they do while caring for the animals and environment.

My hope is that in this new role, I can help them expand their businesses and allow them to keep their focus on production while CAA markets and sells their products.

Agriculture and farming have always had an important place in my life. My father grew up on a dairy farm in central New York outside of Syracuse. I would spend summers there, and my grandfather and uncle would put me to work when I wasn’t playing in the hay loft, climbing on tractors, or taking the four-wheeler out in the fields.

The heritage of farming and ranching, and the products that come from it, are one of the main drivers that brought my fiancee Caitlin, dog Goat and me to Steamboat Springs in spring 2022. We had lived in different Colorado mountain towns but were still looking for our “forever home.”

We came here because we wanted a place with a strong sense of community, and it was equally important that we found careers that helped to protect the valley’s character.

I was drawn to the CAA Market before I became an employee. When we first moved here, a kind person sitting next to us at brunch raved about the market, which was right up my alley as an avid home cook.

I immediately got a membership and started shopping here regularly. The variety of cuts of local meat here that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere has inspired me to branch out and try new recipes.

If you have not shopped at the CAA Market before, I encourage you to come and check us out. We have a wide range of local products including brats, hot dogs, eggs, seasonal produce, cheese, honey, all different cuts of beef, pork, lamb, chicken and so much more.

I am excited to be able to use my background and passion to help the CAA Market continue to grow, enhance the support of local producers, and ultimately bring more local food to the people of this community.

Stop by the CAA Market at 743 Oak St. and say hello. We are open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays.
